STILL Hamburg once again honoured for its commitment to occupational safety

‘Smart Fox’ 2025 awards

Occupational health and safety is firmly embedded in the corporate culture of long-standing Hamburg-based company STILL, and is consistently implemented across all areas and management levels on a daily basis. The Employers' Liability Insurance Association for Wood and Metal (BGHM) has recognised this achievement by awarding STILL Hamburg the ‘Smart Fox’ award twice this year. This prestigious award annually recognises outstanding company projects and initiatives that increase employee safety and health protection.

Last Friday, two projects from STILL's Hamburg headquarters were honoured with the ‘Smart Fox’ 2025 award: the internal communication campaign ‘Simon and Simone Safe’ and the ‘Professionals Always Work Safely’ day of action. This is the second time that the German Employers' Liability Insurance Association for Wood and Metal (BGHM) has recognised the Hamburg branch's outstanding commitment to occupational health and safety. "We are delighted to have been honoured once again," says Dirk Sadler, head of the STILL plant in Hamburg. "They demonstrate our ongoing commitment to driving forward the topic of occupational safety and our desire to keep improving, despite the excellent results we have already achieved. After all, occupational safety concerns our most valuable resource: our employees. Effective communication and a strong awareness of the importance of protective measures are crucial for the success of occupational safety. Ultimately, we can only be successful in this area in the long term if everyone participates, acts responsibly, and looks out for each other."

‘Smart Fox’ for the ‘Simon and Simone Safe’ communication campaign

Already last year, STILL's corporate culture was recognised by the BGHM as a 'culture of prevention'. This is partly due to the varied and eye-catching corporate communication measures, such as the internal communication campaign, 'Simon and Simone Safe'. The team regularly implements striking measures centred around the STILL comic characters Simon & Simone Sicher. The cheerful figures lend personality, positivity and a valuable degree of lightness to the topic of workplace safety. Alongside strong visual communication materials, such as a series of posters and flyers on the '10 golden rules of occupational safety', the campaign included a drawing competition, in which employees' children were invited to illustrate their ideas about their parents' safe working practices at STILL. The campaign also featured creative T-shirts for all production employees and a 'safety photo shoot' for employees' families. This resulted in an eye-catching series of posters for internal communication.

Award-winning ‘Professionals Always Work Safely’ campaign day

Real-life demonstrations are the best way to visualise the risks in everyday working life, as well as the effectiveness of suitable safety measures. The 'Professionals Always Work Safely' day of action at the STILL site in Hamburg therefore focused on prevention and safety for a whole day. At six practical stations, employees received valuable and practical training in the safe handling of fire, tools, hazardous materials, ladders and much more. They were also made aware of the importance of handling sharp, hot, heavy and fast equipment, as well as caustic substances, carefully and safely. In addition to the entertaining and practical nature of the demonstrations, a raffle with high-quality prizes, in which every employee who had completed all six stations was allowed to participate, provided additional motivation and attention. Every employee who completed all six stations was eligible to participate, providing additional motivation and excitement. The jury of the Employer's Liability Insurance Association for Wood and Metal recognised the valuable contribution that the ‘Professionals Always Work Safely’ day of action made to accident prevention and safety at the STILL plant in Hamburg, presenting the project with the ‘Smart Fox’ award 2025.

Award presentation at the Hamburg plant

Both awards were presented by association representatives at a ceremony held at the Hamburg plant last Friday. "Our greatest motivation is the fact that all our employees return home healthy and unharmed after work every day," emphasises Dirk Sadler. “The fact that we have now been recognised for this for the second year in a row is a great tribute to all those who contribute their ideas and commitment to ensuring the health and safety of all employees every day.”
