Safety and productivity in perfect balance

STILL Smart Assist

As handling capacity increases, travel speeds rise and automation levels grow, the safety requirements of modern warehouse and production environments are increasing too. In order to enable people, vehicles and infrastructure to work together smoothly, efficiently and safely, even in confined spaces, potential accident and collision risks must be identified at an early stage. The STILL Smart Assist support system helps companies to establish sustainable safety standards in warehouses while ensuring that processes remain efficient.

For effective collision avoidance, the STILL Smart Assist driver assistance system uses a variety of modules to detect vehicles, people and infrastructure.

STILL Smart Assist effectively protects warehouse vehicles from collisions with people, infrastructure or other vehicles. At the heart of the system are individually and flexibly configurable protection and warning zones within the warehouse, as well as the reliable real-time detection of people, vehicles and infrastructure. Smart Assist utilises a broadband radio signal, as well as various mobile and stationary modules for vehicles and infrastructure, warning tags for people, and optionally AI cameras for obstacle detection, to achieve this. Automatic adjustment of vehicle speed is also possible. As a modular component within the STILL portfolio for accident prevention, STILL Smart Assist can be precisely tailored to different warehouse layouts, traffic routes and fleet structures. Depending on the specific challenges and objectives, different modules can be combined and expanded. This enables companies to make individual risk areas safer and establish a comprehensive safety concept for the entire material flow.

Gate Control: Safe passage through gates and effective collision avoidance

Gates and hall entrances pose a higher risk of collision. The Gate Control module in STILL Smart Assist reliably secures gate areas and avoids collisions with vehicles. A protection and warning zone is established on both sides of the gate to achieve this, and the driving speed is automatically adjusted when entering the zone. At the same time, entering the zone triggers the gate to open, ensuring collision-free passage. If the lift mast is raised, for example, the system will alert the driver with visual and audible signals, reducing the speed further until the mast has been lowered and safe passage is possible. In this way, Gate Control not only prevents collisions with people or other vehicles at gateways, but also helps to protect the vehicle and the infrastructure.

Zone Control: Reliable protection in high-risk zones

The STILL Smart Assist Zone Control module ensures that high-risk areas such as junctions, rack aisles with limited visibility, gates and pedestrian crossings are reliably protected. Mobile and stationary sensors detect approaching hazards within the defined protection zones. Depending on the configuration, the system either activates warning signals or automatically reduces the driving speed until the danger has passed. It then automatically lifts the restriction again. Zone Control thus supports safe driving manoeuvres while avoiding unnecessary restrictions to the flow of goods.

Speed Control: Automatic speed regulation

For businesses that wish to monitor the maximum speed of vehicles not only within defined safety zones, the Speed Control module offers a straightforward and reliable solution. The system monitors the maximum speed of all vehicles both indoors and outdoors.

AI-based object and person detection

When used with the STILL mobile AI camera, Smart Assist reliably detects people without requiring them to wear warning tags. The camera reliably detects people in the danger zone and triggers a warning signal as soon as an object enters the protection and warning zones. At the same time, the system indicates the direction from which the hazard has been detected. To ensure comprehensive coverage in both directions, the system can be expanded to include up to three cameras.

A sustainable contribution to occupational health and safety

With its modular design and optional AI support, STILL Smart Assist promotes safe, efficient, and forward-looking intralogistics. Companies also benefit from improved occupational safety and reliable accident and collision prevention, which is an important component of responsible corporate governance for an increasing number of businesses. The recently published interactive STILL Sustainability Report 2025 showcases the various solutions and initiatives that STILL offers to help companies fulfil their social and environmental responsibilities and adhere to sustainability standards.
