Here we provide answers to frequently asked questions on further education, training, practical training and degree studies at STILL. The contact person for basic practical training is Lisa Morgan.
Can I also complete part of my basic practical training at STILL?
Yes we offer basic practical trainee places in our company, where skills such as turning, milling etc. are learned. Since we know from experience that there are many applicants for our basic practical trainee places, an early application is best. The contact person for basic practical training is our Training Manager Jörg Milla (see Training). Please attach the practical training guidelines from your college to your application.
Can I take the initiative and apply, even if I haven't found a suitable practical trainee vacancy?
Of course you can take the initiative and apply to us by email, on paper or by the online form provided. We also welcome succinctly formulated degree dissertation subjects of your own, which we shall be glad to offer in the appropriate areas of the company.
How and when do I apply, and what paperwork does STILL require?
You can apply by email, on paper or using our online application form. We also require a CV and copies of references and certificates, as well as an informative covering letter. Your application should reach us around three months before the desired starting time.
In which fields / subject areas does STILL offer practical training? How long should my period of practical training last?
STILL offers practical training in many areas of the company, for example, in Development, in the Controller's office or in Marketing. Please get current vacancies from our practical training exchange. Where this is a major period of practical training or a degree dissertation, this Practical Training session should be of a duration of not less than three months.
Can I finish off a student work experience in order to help ascertain my occupational profile?
We are glad to give school students the opportunity to get to know STILL as part of a work experience of 1 to 3 weeks, arranged by the school. You will be able to decide on a technical or commercial placement. A short covering letter, your CV giving details of the period and a copy of the last two certificates will be sufficient. We shall do our best to find the required placement for you. Experience tells us that many school students like to take their work experience during the same period. Early application is therefore recommended (around six months in advance); even STILL's facilities are limited!
How do I apply, and what paperwork does STILL require?
You can apply by email or on paper with a covering letter, CV and copies of certificates. So that we can get a better overview of your achievements, please send copies of at least 4 certificates (half year and previous year).
How does STILL select suitable applicants?
Depending on the job you decide to train for, different requirements apply e.g. for the school-leaving certificate. You will find these requirements in the description of the particular job being trained for. In addition to this we observe the ability to work in a team and the commitment of our trainees, their ability to compose written correspondence, their pleasure in craft work, good mathematical knowledge and interest in economic and technical subjects. To get to know them better from this point of view, the selection process will include a test, along with a personal interview.
How does the training at STILL finish?
STILL offers a varied training programme: Along with the accompanying programme of many seminars and training sessions, the trainees "go through" individual departments during the whole of their training period, for example, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Marketing, Assembly, Business Administration and Engineering. Trainees get to know a lot about STILL, and the more commercial trainees can decide on a department on which they will focus, which will be specified at the end of their training.
What happens after the training at STILL?
STILL trains for its own requirements. After the training - depending on commitment, performance, interest and the opportunities within the company - trainees will be deployed to their preferred area.
When should I apply for a training place?
So that nothing stands in your way of starting at STILL, it is sensible to apply in September of the previous year (i.e. for the start of training in August of the following year).
