Working in Partnership with Stafford College

Innovation and ethics are high on the agenda for the NSCG’s (Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group). The college have recently made considerable investment into hybrid technology to expand their already successful Motor Vehicle Technology provision.

The college supports students in achieving their Diplomas and NVQ’s in motor vehicle repair, construction, plant, technology and maintenance at Level 1 to Level 3, in both their full-time and apprenticeship courses. Having recently delivered x2 brand new STILL trucks (RX70-20 and RX50-15) to their Construction Plant Department on Palmbourne Industrial Estate, STILL are proud to partner such a prestigious college and support talented and ambitious apprentices throughout their studies.

Eddie Peake (NSCG Lecturer in Construction Plant Maintenance) commented: "Within our facilities, we have both workshops and classrooms specifically catering for students interested in studying construction, plant and motor vehicles. We were particularly interested in the STILL product due to its unique hybrid technology which is unrivalled in the forklift industry. At the college, our mandate is to focus on innovation and new technologies which we know are synonymous with the STILL brand."

Mark Godridge (NSCG Curriculum Leader) added: "The STILL product is setting the standards for our young apprentices; these trucks fundamentally underpin the plant engineering curriculum which we teach here. It is so important for us to instil a strong work ethic in our students and having such a quality product like STILL in our workshop, enables us to demonstrate engineering protocols to the very highest levels."

'The Construction and Plant Maintenance' course is a part-time programme where students spend 2 years at Level 2 and 1 year at Level 3 with the sole aim of achieving an NVQ by the end of the course.

STILL have had apprentices at Stafford College for the past 4 years and have worked closely in partnership with the college to make sure that the forklift engineers of the future have a sound knowledge and practical understanding across an array of plant equipment and materials handling.

Russell Mogg (STILL Technical Coach) added: "Our apprentices that have qualified through the college have always commented on the high-level classroom tuition and instruction, it is an absolute pleasure to assist these students in their learning."

Jake Willis (STILL Field Service Engineer) remarked: "Stafford College helped me ” to become more experienced in the plant industry by offering a wealth of knowledge with an abundance of guidance. The staff always encouraged me to push myself which enabled me to become a Level 3 qualified engineer. With this qualification, I have been given great opportunities within STILL UK, for example, working internationally in the Netherlands to give them my support."

Ben Howard (STILL Field Service Engineer) also said: "The Stafford College lecturers made my learning experience very beneficial as they are all ex-engineers and really know what they’re talking about. I learnt a great deal of knowledge across different plant equipment which was also job-specific. I know this will help me in the future with whatever career I choose to pursue."

James Stonehouse (STILL Field Service Engineer) added: "I had a fantastic experience learning at Stafford College completing my Level 3 qualification in plant maintenance. I couldn’t have asked for better tutors in terms of their teaching and support. The college lecturers have real industry experience which gave me the knowledge to do my job today, carrying out servicing, repairs and liaising with customers. Furthermore, Stafford College enabled me to further my education by doing my HNC, I really couldn’t have asked for a better experience."

Since STILL’s first diesel and electric 'hybrid' truck (The 'Muli') back in 1960, we have developed this innovative technology right up to the present day. Our unrivalled RX 70 IC engine truck now operates across a wide range of fleets achieving up to 50% in fuel savings for our customers. The strong partnership which we have formed with Stafford College over the years is without doubt built on our shared value and passion for ‘innovation.’

Tim Easter (STILL Area Sales Manager) remarked: “It’s an absolute pleasure to work with Stafford College and deliver products which help nurture the skills of young apprentices so that they can thrive in their learning and development.”
