Trucks driven by invisible operators - autonomous STILL warehouse trucks

Autonomous trucks are an important step towards a fully automatic, autonomous organisation of warehouses. An important success factor for the highly dynamic logistic industry is the consistent development of systems that combine the concrete and efficient transport of goods and components with a consistent flow of information. Exactly this is the approach STILL took when developing the material management system (MMS.i). At the same time it is the basis for the operation of the autonomous FM and MX-X trucks.

AUTONOMOUS FM

The FM is fully computer controlled. It navigates with a laser detecting the environment. A rotating laser scanner with an 180 degree opening permanently scans the environment and by this develops a full picture of the room it is in. By comparison to stored maps the truck can locate its position exactly to a centimetre. Prerequisite for this are extremely powerful computers, exact sensors and intelligent algorithms. The position of the mast and the fork is controlled by special sensors and an integrated height measuring system.

This higher "intelligence" of the autonomous FM is the biggest advantage compared to conventional automated guided vehicle systems (AGVs) which also require more space for the additionally needed "stations". In addition the STILL concept is much more flexible.

AUTONOMOUS MX-X

Automated systems are characterised by high reliability and a continuously high performance. If the environmental conditions or the goods to be transported change, it is usually very difficult to adapt fully automatic systems and the adaptation to the new conditions is very expensive. The autonomous MX-X closes this gap.

Automatic operation today - manual operation tomorrow.

If the transported goods change, the autonomous MX-X can be operated manually - without adaptation and without extra costs.

Replenishment overnight - order picking during daytime.

Both jobs can be completed with one truck. Replenishment is done automatically - order picking is done manually.
