Inspiring the next generation of engineers…

STILL UK were invited to join Cranwell Primary School’s ‘Work Experience Day’ where several companies attended to give an insight into the work they carry out on a daily basis. The school children taking part were aged from 9-11 years old.

Richard Welby (STILL UK’s Technical Specialist for Central East Team) commented:
“I made up two circuit boards for the day and presented to the children a simplified wiring diagram. Using the diagram they successfully wired up a spotlight and horn on the circuit board.

As part of the demonstrations, it was important to explain a basic level of fault finding.I asked the children to put a fault on the second board and using the wiring diagram, they were able to trace the fault and put it right. They then changed the wiring around to get the reversing light and buzzer working on one switch instead of two.

With sheer determination and teamwork, all the tasks were carried out successfully by each group!

Since the demonstration, we have had a great response from the school. All the children were very enthusiastic about taking part and I have had two letters from pupils thanking me for teaching them.”

Congratulations and well done to everyone involved…a great team effort!
