Hamburg/Lainate, 06 March 2016 – Carrefour Italy has chosen a fleet of new EXU Li-Ion low-lift pallet trucks from STILL: the new lithium-ion batteries of the 66 trucks can be charged anywhere and at any time, have no emissions and are maintenance-free.
Carrefour is present in Italy in 18 regions with 1.065 outlets (divided into 58 Carrefour superstores, 409 Carrefour supermarkets, 585 convenience stores Carrefour Express and 13 Cash and Carry Docks Market and Grossiper) and over 20.000 employees. They confirmed their confidence in OM STILL and ordered 66 new low-lift pallet trucks with lithium-ion technology. They will be used in the Italian stores of the Group. The famous chain of supermarkets and superstores confirmed the trend to move towards market innovations, choosing the technology of future for the renewal of their pallet trucks fleet: lithium-ion batteries.
There are many advantages that influenced Carrefour Italy towards this decision: for example lithium-ion batteries are safe because unlike traditional lead-acid batteries, they do not contain acid and do not produce any emissions during the charging process. This fact eliminates the need to dispose of an isolated and especially equipped charging room and offers an ideal solution to the necessity to optimize space in convenience stores.
Then not only lithium-ion batteries can be recharged anywhere, but at any time as well. This feature ensures maximum flexibility of the trucks and also reduces totally the risk of damage due to a bad use of batteries. Lithium-ion batteries do not require any maintenance, they are instead extremely durable, allowing to eliminate additional costs. Furthermore lithium-ion batteries allow energy savings up to 20% compared to lead-acid ones.
