Hamburg/Hannover, 2 May 2011 - STILL RX70 HYBRID: The production has now started. The new RX70 is equipped with two energy storage systems. The technology had already been presented ready for series at the CeMAT. Hybrid technology is not only interesting from an environmental point of view but also economically. If used for more than 1500 hours per year, the new technology will pay off in less than two years.
The new RX70 HYBRID has a rated capacity of 3.0 and 3.5 tonnes and was developed on the basis of the highly successful RX70 diesel truck. This truck excels by using less energy than any other product in its class. Depending on the type of the application, the hybrid technology that is now available will reduce fuel consumption by another 15 percent. This is another STILL contribution in order to render intralogistics environmentally sustainable, because lower consumption of energy means lower CO2 emission.
To achieve this, the RX70 HYBRID makes use of “free” energy recuperated from the kinetic energy when braking the truck. This energy is stored and can be used for the next acceleration.
Further benefits for this new hybrid are as follows: The RX70 HYBRID stacks more silently. As far as the engine is concerned “less means more.” Instead of 44 Kilowatt, the new RX70 HYBRID only needs a 30 KW diesel engine to achieve the same turnover.
Drive and lift movements are intelligently controlled. An electrically adjustable hydraulic pump lowers the consumption for lifting. Altogether the RX70 HYBRID is another stepping stone towards higher efficiency and more environmental responsibility.
Efficient hybrid technology
The truck draws its energy from the diesel tank and in addition, from the ultra caps (high performance double layer capacitors) mounted at the rear of the truck. These ultra caps are charged with the energy released when the truck brakes. When accelerating, the energy from the capacitors provides additional performance. The energy collected when braking is later used by the generator which is additionally propelled by the diesel engine to power the electric drive motor. All the related systems are linked up by the electronic controller which also controls charging and discharging of the additional energy storage.
Ultra caps are particularly well suited for the task because they can be quickly charged with high currents and release the energy equally fast. This supporting energy reduces the load on the diesel engine by approximately 30 percent. The contribution of the electric energy reduces the speed of the diesel engine during acceleration by about 6 percent.
The ideal application for the RX70 HYBRID is within industries requiring frequent braking and acceleration. For example, when loading and unloading lorries in the beverage industry. |
